Objectives:
Its activities provide for study and research, even in the technological sector, relating to the correct management and evolution of woods and mountain pastures.

Means:
The Institute runs, coordinates and participates in various ways in a variety of interdisciplinary research programmes and finalized projects on a national scale, among which may be mentioned:

  • the project of first national forest inventory and the ongoing study for the new one
  • the forest, its values and decisions about it
  • the officinal plants project

          Main goals:
to undertake studies with high territorial importance
to invest research in concrete operational contexts
to come up to social instances in order to pursue the environmental protection
to improve the cooperation with Italian and foreign research organizations

 

Research and development priorities:

  • planning of woods and pastures with respect to the complexity of ecosystems and to the multiplicity of their functions and values
  • innovative techniques for the gathering, treatment and representation of information relating to forest and pasture ecosystems
  • methodological studies and preparation of mathematical/ statistical models for the dendrometrical estimation and description of the forest stands dynamics
  • basic studies on the typology and productivity of alpine pastures
  • improvement and management of alpine meadows and mountain pastures
  • cultivation and genetic improvement of officinal plants.
